About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. On Friday, Karen and I took our laundry to a Lavanderia (cleaners but it is real cheap) to have our clothes cleaned. When we went to pick them up on Saturday, after camp, the shop was closed. So missing the last bus to Chiloe was a fortunate mistake. I believe everything happens for a reason. Karen goes to get our laundry and Lisa and I get dressed and packed. We board the bus for Chiloe and travel about a hour to the ferry that will take us (meaning the entire bus) across the water to the island of Chiloe. This is the first time I have been on a ferry and it is very exciting. We get out taking pictures of the, now disappearing, port and the clear blue water. A fire burns inside me, from the thrill of this sea faring adventure, but it is no match for the Arctic wind hat is slicing through my winter garments. Taking the hint I go back inside the bus and leave the picture taking to those with thicker skin. Once in Chiloe we drive for another hour and a half until we arrive in Castro, the capital city. We drive past triangle topped houses, rolling hills and lots of sheep. We reach the bus station in Castro and disembark and walk 5 blocks, packed down like ...

Halfway through the journey, two german policemen came onboard to check our passports which was quite weird as all along they had not bothered to do so. It was 6.30am when we reached berlin zob which is the omnibusbahnhof. It was freezing cold at 7 deg cel. The s- or u- bahn to the hbf is a 300m walk from zob. Train tickets are so much cheaper here - day tickets which cover bus and trains cost only 6.10 euros. :D Food is also cheap. You can get a macs bacon mcmuffin for 1.79 or a simple brötchen at 0.99. But souvenirs are quite expensive and surprisingly they cost lesser near the attractions itself. After we had dumped our luggages in our hostel luggage room, we made our way to the east side gallery which is the nearest to our hostel. By the way, the buses are so much like trains in that they show the next stop on the screens and they work perfectly well unlike those in Singapore. In fact their buses are friendlier than their s-bahn which can be quite difficult to find ...
